Writer's blog assignment

Some say boys are stronger, others say boys are smarter. It just isn't fair. This scholarship is rightfully mine, why should I give up my hope for a better future for my village to my brother.

My father says that even if I go to the city, I wouldn't be of use. Why does it have to be this way? Can't girls get a chance too? Me and my brother's hope was for a brighter future for the people of our village. But now I won the scholarship, he wants to steal it from me. What has happened to him?

Today, I met a girl by the name of Bao. She sells lotus buds and caged birds in the market. She gave me a lotus bud as a gift for the head monk when i went to visit him. However, later in the day, her brother, Vichai, found out she had been letting the caged birds fly away without collecting money. He even smacked her in the face. Then, Kwai, my brother, came to stop him. After Vichai left, Bao told Kwai about me wanting to go to the city, and Kwai not wanting me to because he himself wanted to have the scholarship. Kwai wanted to hit Bao too, but when i held his hand, he pushed me away emotionlessly. I was so devastated that Kwai had for the sake of the scholarship, pushed me away and hurt me.

Today has left an emotional scar in me. Can I ever forgive Kwai? Deep in my heart, I knew that this was only the beginning of the struggle i had to make to fulfil my dreams.

Like all good things must come to an end, its the end of my 5 day CNY holidays. How sad... School starts in approximately 7 hours and 30 minutes. At least i wouldn't be so bored, staying at home all day. And there's CO tomorrow also. Anyway, here's what I did in the past 2 days of CNY (not including saturday and sunday)

Monday : Started my Chinese New Year visiting at 10 a.m. We went to my materna
grandparent's house first and had lunch there. We then proceeded to my paternal grandparent's house and played some games with my cousin there. Next was my mother's aunt's house. Ate a piece of KFC drumstick and some popcorn chicken (it was cold already) Last, we went to my aunt's house. Chatted for a while and went off. We reached home at about 4pm. Last 7 hours of the day before I slept was spent watching television and playing computer games.

Tuesday : Woke up at 10am, then slacked for 2 hours before proceeding to my second aunt's house for lunch. A list of people who was there : my two aunts, 3 cousins (1 female, married, 1 kid) (2 male, 1 of them married with 1 kid), I'm an uncle of two! Haha. And also 1 of my aunt's friends. Had penang style laksa for lunch. It was my first time eating that, tasted somewhat weird, but it was ok. Also had 'kueh paiti' which is flour shaped like a cup (deep fried), filled with ingredients, and eaten in 1 mouthful. YUM! Then went to one of my cousins room (not married) and played "Nintendo Wii". We played games like "Mario and Sonic at the OLYMPICS", "Mario Kart" and some rabbit game (I forgot the name but the rabbits were very cute and funny). When we got home, my parents and brother slept and I was left with nothing to do so I lazed around in the hot afternoon sun.
And watched television at night, until around 2 a.m. because there was a nice show.

So, that's about it.

And for today, the last PLANT OF THE DAY!

It shall be the Aloe Vera! Soft and squishy, yum!?
Photobucket

Aloe Vera has many uses. It can be a drink, gel, lotion, or skin care products. I like aloe vera when it is used in drinks as it adds a nice feeling to the drink with its crunchiness.

Eat your aloe vera! Then you will have a happy lunar new year. Haha.

Aeeeey, so tired. What a long day... Lessons, class decorations, more lessons, more class decorations and then to end it (as if it wasn't enough), CO. We had a rehearsal for the CNY performance this friday and then brushed up on our songs. As the wise saying goes 'Practice makes perfect' so is was practice, practice, and more practice. What else could we do anyway. Haha.

If you were thinking what the class decorations were about let me show you. Get ready, for you might faint of shock.

After we came back from CO - (5:45pm)

The words, read "chu ru ping an" means to exit and enter peacefully/safely.

Three more days to our performance for the chinese new year :) I wish all of you people out there a very happy lunar new year, and may all your wishes come true.

Since its the lunar new year, today's PLANT OF THE DAY

will be the peach blossom. We wish you a happy new year, we wish you a happy new year.

Photobucket

This flower is widely sold during CNY as it symbolises longevity. I mother has put up a vase of FAKE (its easier to 'care' for) peach blossoms flowers mostly for decoration and not for the longevity.

HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE. Oh no, i havent gave the answer for the question I posted last time. Are you ready?

Here's the question again.

The beginning of eternity
The end of time and space
The beginning of every end
And the end of every place

The answer is : the letter E (eternity ; time and space ; end ; place)

Did you get that? Good job if you did, if you did not, it's ok... It's the new year, dun fret. Gimme a smile :D

And since its the Chinese new year, here's a piece of music. Enjoy it, or at least try to. Haha.

And also, here's a video on MR.BEAN celebrating his new year with 2 friends. I think you would enjoy this.

Nothing interesting happened today... School started with a science lesson. We went to the lab and did an experiment on reflection. We were supposed to mark out the ray of reflection when the ray of incidence was at a certain angle. For example, 20 degrees, 40 degrees, and 60 degrees. After science was literature, and then recess. Followed by mathematics and english. We went to the IT lab for english to do our blogs.

After school, I had Chinese Orchestra. As usual, I had my lunch then went for CO. We practiced the songs to be performed for CNY and then went on to practice our 2 pieces for SYF (Singapore Youth Festival), namely 'Jiu Ge' and 'Can Ge'. You can listen to 'Jiu Ge' on my playlist, 2nd song from the top. I improved my speed of playing the song and also corrected some rhythm problems.

At debriefing, our chairman told us our next practice dates and a CIP programme in which we will be performing for some old folks. I think that would be my first public performance. I shall do my best!! Haha :D Then, I went home with Kai Hui. But, he was totally engrossed in a game is his phone. I have no idea what was so interesting about that game. Controlling a historical chinese warrior and slashing the opposing troops with a spear. WHOO?

Anyway, here's a question for you to think about.

-The beginning of eternity
The end of time and space
The beginning of every end,
And the end of everyplace

Here's a clue to help you : You begin at the start, you end at the end

Answer will be revealed next post :) And now...

It's time for......PLANT OF THE DAY

Today's plant will be the Orchid, or more specifically Vanda Miss Joaquim

Photobucket

As I was singing the national anthem today at assembly, I felt a sense of patriotism. I don't mean i do not love my country on other days. Everyone should love their own country, no matter where you are from. This orchid has large and broad lips and the middle lobe extends out like a fan. It is coloured violet-rose and merges into fieryorange at the centre.

GOOD NIGHT SINGAPORE!!

-A woman got on a bus holding a baby.
The bus driver said: "That`s the ugliest baby I`ve ever seen. "In a huff, the woman slammed her fare into the box and took an aisle seat near the rear of the bus. The man seated next to her sensed that she was agitated and asked her what was wrong. "The bus driver insulted me" she fumed. The man sympathized and said: "Why, he`s a public servant and shouldn`t say things to insult passengers." "You`re right" she said. "I think I`ll go back up there and give him a piece of my mind."
"That`s a good idea" the man said. "Here, let me hold your monkey."

-
Years ago while lying in my hammock and drinking JD from the bottle I noticed my dog dragging something under the fence. Upon inspection, to my dismay, I realized it was the next door neighbor's 10 year old daughter's rabbit. For years I had watch her come home from school and head straight out to its cage, free it and play with it in the yard. I knew today would be no different and fearing for our dog, I had to think fast. The rabbit was quite dirty, as if it had put up quite a struggle, so I washed it off with the hose, combed it with the Dog brush and blew it dry with the leaf blower. Upon finishing it's grooming, I hopped the fence and replaced back in its cage hoping it's death would be written off as "natural causes." Back to the hammock and my JD. Within the hour, the neighbor's Volvo pulled in as usual and out popped the little girl, and as usual she headed straight for the cage. Only this time she stopped about six feet away and screamed: "DDDAAADDDYYY!!!" Her father, panic stricken, stood looking at the cage. Being the good neighbor that I am, I rushed to the fence and asked if there was anything I could do. Her father less than calmly blurted, "What kind of sick individual would dig up a little girl's dead rabbit and put it back in it's cage??"

Laughing now? GOOD BOY. Ok, maybe i could do a short summary of my day at school? Nothing new, lessons going on. We had PE today and did hockey. Then it was recess. Guess what happened! I went to play soccer. And after recess, a guy in out class had actually
released the foam from the fire extinguisher. Wow? Someone else in out class said he saw the guy covered in white smoke. HILARIOUS? I cannot believe someone would do that. It just does not make sense.
Anyway, he was made to report the incident and purchase a new extinguisher. Good luck to him. And Now!!!

It's time for......PLANT OF THE DAY

Today's plant will be the Venus Fly Trap, Snap!

Photobucket

The trapping mechanism is tripped when prey items stumble against one of the three hair-like trichomes
that are found on the upper surface of each of the lobes. The trapping mechanism is so specialized that it can distinguish between living prey and non-prey stimuli such as falling raindrops; two trigger hairs must be touched in succession or one hair touched twice, whereupon the lobes of the trap will snap shut in about 0.1 seconds.

Another day in school...CHEER UP! What a wonderful day is has been. Hmmm, how about a recall. So,

First lesson: Mother Tongue. At about 8, Mr Wang Jun walked into our class."QiLi". We greeted the teacher and started our class. We went through the words from the text book. And one thing I remember most clearly was our teacher talking about the Mother Tongue Department launching a donation drive. We could donate items that we do not use anymore like old clothes and toys? Haha.

Second lesson: Geography. HUMAN ENVIRONMENT. We talked briefly about the 4 main components of the human environment which was: population, settlement, agriculture and transport and communications. Last 10 minutes of the class we watched a video on population density, like how some countries are heavily
populated and some are scarcely populated in proportion to the
area of the country.

Then, it was recess time. As USUAL, I played soccer in the school field until the end of recess and returned to class.

Third lesson: It was PE-Theory but our teacher did not come so we 'chit-chatted' all 35 minutes. FUN?

Fourth lesson: Maths. Kind of a boring lesson... No offense to anyone reading this but I do prefer Ms Nooreny. First, started off with a maths test which i got 1/5 for because i didn't write the congruent triangles. Eg. Triangle ABC congruent to Triangle PQR. We learned about the scale on maps and the scale factor which was the factor of the length on the map and the actual length on earth. We got homework and ok ended lesson.

And then, because of the external validation, the teachers had to have a meeting i think. So, we were released at 1.05 pm which was after maths class so Hallelujah.

It's time for......PLANT OF THE DAY

Today's plant will be the MIMOSA PLANT, shy guy?

Photobucket

The mimosa close its leaves because
a heat stimulus (hand) induces an electrical signal, similar to the electrical potential in nerve cells. When the electrical potential reaches specialized cells at the base of each leaflet, the folding is caused by a rapid efflux of potassium followed by rapid water transport out of the cells.

Oh no, i have to go to bed now, there is still school tomorrow! See you
